Logging equipment torched near Simpson


Several pieces of logging equipment were intentionally burned Aug. 24 after the crew left a work site off of Louisiana Highway 465 north of Simpson, according to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF).


LDAF is investing the incident that destroyed one skidder, damaged another along with a loader, totaling more than $500,000.


Enforcement Division investigators determined a wildfire that caused the damage was arson. LDAF and Vernon parish Sheriff's Office detectives continue to investigate the incident.


Anyone with information about this fire is asked to contact invenstigators either with LDAF at 855-452-5323 or the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-238-1311.


LDAF reminds the public that anyone accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty.
