Ag prescribed burn manager class set

Anyone wanting to become a certified Prescribed Burn Manager, or those wanting to re-certify as required every five years, should attend an Agricultural Prescribed Burn Manager Certification Class from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Yambilee Building, 1939 West Landry Street in Opelousas.

The educational class will address the essential elements for preparing for and implementing an agricultural prescribed burn plan using recommended prescribed burning practices. Completion of the class is required for Prescribed Burn Manager Certification by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF). The class also is sponsored by the St. Landry and Evangeline Parish Extension offices of the LSU AgCenter.

Farmers, cattlemen, agricultural producers, landowners and land manager can attend, as should those assisting with controlled burns, as well as anyone planning to use fire as an agricultural land management technique.

There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Participants must arrive on time and successfully completed all requirements for certification.

The class is tentative, based on enough producer interest, so please pre-register as soon as possible. Call 337-948-0561 in Opelousas or 337-363-5646 in Ville Platte to register.

Ag producers who were previously certified are required to re-certify every five years and can attend the class to maintain Burn Manager certification.
